Tony Jaa Returns in Tom Yum Goong 2, October 2013

Sahamongkolfilm International have released a new teaser trailer for the forthcoming sequel to Tom Yum Goong.

Tony Jaa re-teams with director Prachya Pinkaew and action choreographer/stunt co-ordinator Panna Rittikrai to bring us Tom Yum Goong 2 in 3D later this year, in October.

The original 2005 film, also known as The Protector in the US and Warrior King in the UK, was about a young man named Kham, who was raised in a village in the jungle, having a strong affinity with the elephants who dwell in and around the village. After two of the elephants (one adult, one baby) are stolen by illegal animal smugglers, Kham must follow their trail through Thailand to Australia, smashing and beating his way through to retrieve them.

The cast of the forthcoming sequel also features Jeeja Yanin, who can be briefly seen in the trailer. I thought she had a fantastic debut in Chocolate (2008) and had superb fight scenes in Raging Phoenix (2009) (though I thought the story wasn't quite up there, in my opinion); in any case, she's definitely not afraid to kick some serious ass! I still haven't seen her other films The Kick (2011) and This Girl Is Bad Ass!! (2011) yet, but they're definitely on my "to watch" list.

I can't wait for this film! If it's anything like the first movie, there's going to be some amazingly ridiculous action! Especially with both Tony Jaa and Jeeja Yanin involved. I wonder if they'll be fighting with each other, or against each other?? I suspect they won't fight each other, as I'd think fans of each would be up in arms if either one beat the other in martial combat, but who knows? Perhaps they will...

Judging by the poster, it looks as though elephants are involved again... I wonder if they'll be stolen a second time, and our Tony has to go find 'em? Whatever the story (or lack thereof), there's bound to be some great action set pieces, and spellbinding choreography. Bring on October!!!

Does this teaser whet your appetite? Does the prospect of Tony Jaa and Jeeja Yanin starring together float your boat? Let me know your views in the comments below.
